Three games played since Hod got his P45 and still no goals conceded.
In contrast to last weeks performance where Manchester City couldn't score in a London hotel despite us presenting them with countless chances, yesterday's clean sheet was down to a decent defensive performance as the confidence is starting to return to our much-maligned defence.
Only one change in the starting line-up as Ricketts was restored in place of Bunjevcevic. Again we lined up with a 4-4-2
There was little action worth mentioning in the 1st half hour except for a couple of long range efforts from Poyet and Taricco, and Watson heading over for the Blues.
The game burst into life on 35 minutes as Keane broke into the box and fired a shot across Martyn in the Everton goal, who just got a hand to his low effort and pushed it away from the on-rushing Kanoute but the ball was fed out to Carr who put in a deep cross which Robbie volleyed wide from a tight angle.
Headers from Watson and Yobo both went wide before the deadlock was broken.
Kanoute knocked down Keller's long clearance. Gus was there to flick it back into his path and Fredi let rip with a dipping volley from a good 30 yards. As the commentator said on the Premiership, "Kanoute (pause) What A Goal!!!"
We almost doubled our advantage before the interval as Gus's far post header from Taricco's cross was kept out by a good save from Martyn.
The Spurs team were quickest out of the dressing rooms for the start of the 2nd half and carried that over once the whistle blew. Just 38 seconds had elapsed when Poyet applied the deftest of headers to Anderton's whipped cross to steer the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
They weren't finished yet as Anderton fed the ball into Keane. He got a bit lucky as the ball came back off Unsworth heel but then made no mistake in slotting it past Martyn for our 3rd goal in six minutes.
From then on we made sure Everton had no way of getting back into the game, even when they bought on the wünderkind Rooney, whose most telling contribution to the game was a barrage of verval abuse at the ref which earned him a booking after lunging at Ricketts after the ball had gone.
Chances came and went for both sides but none looked like making a difference to the comprehensive scoreline.
As David Pleat said after the game all the players had performed well. Anderton and Poyet managed to be a lot more involved with 2 assists, and a goal and and an assist respectively. I still feel they will struggle to last the full 90 minutes against better opposition.
Gardner put in a couple of great tackles towards the end which may have resulted in free kicks and a 2nd booking a few games ago. Generally we looked better in all areas. Konchesky did well both on the left of midfield and then at left back once Taricco had gone off for Dalmat.
Keane and Kanoute are forming a very good partnership and had they both been fit from the start of the season things may have turned out differently for Glenn.
A couple of weeks until the next game, away to Leicester, as we break for the internationals next weekend. Maybe there'll be a new manager in charge by the 19th but if not then David Pleat is doing a capable job in the short term.
MOTM: Fredi Kanoute. Set us on the way with a stunning goal, his 6th in as many starts for the club.
