Spurs 3 - 1 Man City

Just wrote a report but got an error message in German when I pressed submit.

Will write it again tomorrow as off out now.

Spurs 3 - 1 Man City

Spurs progressed to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup thanks to a comfortable victory over a poor Manchester City side.

We did our usual trick of controlling the game from the start. But unusually we actually converted that into an early lead as Anderton brought the ball down on his thigh and drilled home a left foot shot from outside the area in the 9th minute, although the City keeper Stuhr-Ellegaard was slow getting down to it.

By this point, Keane had already had 2 chances which he had been unable to convert and spurned another chance 10 minutes later.

Ellegaard did well to stop a drilled free kick from Anderton before Poyet's flick fell to Doherty, in for Richards, a couple of yards out. Unfortunately the Doc hesitated and then miskicked under pressure. The one-way traffic continued as the recalled Ricketts and Poyet both went close before we had a very good shout for a penalty as Keane was bundled over by Distin.

Then, the moment we had all been waiting for; Sinclair failed to control a Ricketts cross and Postiga was unmarked as he struck the ball home from about 10 yards. White Hart Lane erupted as Postiga ran to the crowd. Picked up a booking for throwing his shirt into the crowd.

Going 2 goals down seemed to spur City into life as they had 3 chances before the break but failed to trouble Keller.

Keegan obviously gave City a halftime rollicking as they came out with much more determination after the break. Doherty, Car and Keller all helped us preserve our lead. Spurs came back into it as Keane's cheeky chip was tipped over and King shot wide.

Konchesky replace Ricketts, who was suffering from cramp and McMananaman replaced Tarnat. Stevie Mac's introduction led to another spell of possession for City.

Postiga went off to a standing ovation as Kanoute, a surprise inclusion on the bench, made his comeback from injury with 15 minutes to go.

City pulled a goal back as Doherty sliced a clearance straight up into the air. Fowler then somehow beat Keller to the ball and nodded it into an empty net.

Made for a tense finish as Spurs decided to look for a decisive third goal rather than shut up shop. Distin appeared to handball in the box as the ball went from end to end constantly with blocks flying in from all angles

As the 4 minutes of injury time drew to a drawn out end Konchesky found room on the left and crossed. Keane dummied and the ball found its way to an unmarked Kanoute for a simple finish.

Job done and Boro at home in the next round after they beat Everton on penalties.

I mentioned him in a match report, that is all.

Strange but at least my blog is "world famous"!

Spurs 5 - 2 Wolves

A convincing victory brought about mainly by Robbie Keane's hat-trick against his first English League club.

A couple of sloppy goals conceded took some of the gloss off but we looked genuinely dangerous and created plenty of chances throughout the match.

The first chance fell to another Wolves old boy in the shape of Dean Richards. The timing of his run and first touch were both superb but he was unable to prod the ball past Oakes in the Wolves goal.

5 minutes later Richards picked up a yellow for a nothing foul inside the Wolves half. Although once again referee Uriah Rennie did not have the greatest of days with the whistle; his assistants were equally inconsistent to boot.

Halfway through the first half we could have had a penalty as Fredi Kanoute was bundled over by Irwin and Butler but Rennie was having none of it. After a further 5 minutes we made the breakthrough. Ledley King fed the ball through the middle to Keane; superb chest control and he banged it home. No cartwheels to celebrate - just like at Coventry.

Wolves were not beaten just yet as they hit back straight away. Wolves bundled the ball through a few tackles and just before Taricco put in a block, Ince managed to get a shot in for the equaliser. Spurs fans had barely finished celebrating the opener.

A superb move of one touch football and flicks released Keane in the box but he scuffed his shot wide. Blake then lobbed just wide from an angle. as it remained 1 a piece until half time. The half time whistle was met with boos again, mostly for the referee I would say but also due to the frustration that we lost a lead so easily.

The first real chance of the second half saw Anderton whip in a cross for the returning Kanoute to head down into the corner of the net.

Things were still fairly tight for the next 15 minutes before Konchesky replaced Ricketts. Kanoute then signalled his intentions to keep climbing the goalscoring charts with an outrageous dipping volley from 25 yards which Oakes did well to tip over.

The key moment of the match then saw Camara miss what could only be described as a sitter as he blazed over from less than 6 yards.

2 minutes later Konchesky found space on the left and whipped in a far post cross to Keane who volleyed it across Oakes into the opposite top corner.

Stephane Dalmat replaced the tiring Gus Poyet before Keane completed his treble. Konchesky again whipped in the cross from a move that Kean has started over on the touchline. Anderton stopped to head the ball towards goal. Oakes beat the ball out but Keane had made his way into the box and slotted home untroubled.

But again we let Wolves see a glimmer of hope as Gardner's poor defensive header allowed Sturridge to cut the ball back to Rae who did the same and put it just inside the far post.

The icing on the cake was delivered by Dalmat. He received the ball from Carr out on the right touchline before surging past 2 defenders into the box and smashing home an unstoppable left foot effort to wrap up the 3 points.

2 good victories in 4 days could be the sign that we're ready to put together a good run and pull away from the wrong end of the table. But our next 2 games are Newcastle away and then Man United at home so these points were truly vital.

MOTM: It could only be Keane with 2 superb goals and another thanks to an excellent determined run. His link play with the midfield is also developing with every game.

Back to the 'Furt

Had an absolutely blinding weekend. Went back to Frankfurt where I spent my placement year with 7 mates who were also out there.

Had a halfday at work on Friday so I could get across to Stansted in time for the flight.

Arrived there and as I was walking up the ramp turned round to see Wick stood next to me as he'd been on the same train. Walked into the terminal and saw my old boss. Small world, eh?

First problem appeared when Wick couldn't find his photocard driving licence which he would need to drive the hire car. A few frantic phone calls followed before we managed to confirm that Achtung had his so he would be able to drive.

We went and waited in the Wetherspoons for the others to turn up. Flight went without any hitches and we got to Frankfurt Hahn on time. Picked up the hire car. Bit of a squash as there wasn't much room for the luggage with 7 of us.

Got to the Holiday Inn and checked in. Rooms were on the 24th floor. Superb view out across the city. Dashed off to NYC, a cocktail bar on Schweizer Strasse, south of the river. Got there at 1 only to be let down by the Happy Hour times as Achtung was confident it went on until half past 1. Went in for cocktails and a quick beer anyway

Then we went for a drink in O'Dwyers, before heading off to what used to be our standard pub, the Anglo Irish. Arrived to find we could only get shots as they were closing soon so ordered a couple of Baby Guiness for old time's sake. Got a round of cinnamon tequila on the house as we knew the barmaid's sister from our time over there. Lampiert almost puked after the tequila but survived to fight another day.

We moved on to the 5 o'clock bar for more pints, popping out to get a Turkish pizza from the Koylu, the best kebab shop in Frankfurt. At this point all but Heldin, Tusch and myself went back to the hotel. For some reason we decided to keep drinking and then moved on to the 6 o'clock bar.

Eventually we persuaded a taxi driver who had just finished for the night to take us up the hill to the hotel.

Next morning we went across the road from the hotel to get an all you can eat buffet breakfast before going into the city centre to do some shopping and visit the Christmas markets. Managed to track down a German DVD I was looking for and also picked up bi-lingual versions of The Life Of Brian and The Green Mile to keep my German up to scratch. Met up with Gabin who'd flown over for the night.

Headed back to the hotel to get changed ready for a meal. Then headed for Joe Pena's, a mexican we went to for my 21st. Superb food and went down a treat considering everyone had been complaining they weren't hungry. Couple of happy hour cocktails and beers and shots. Got some evil looks off the woman on the next table cos we were playing drinking games.

Then went to another 2 bars for more drinking games before heading to our traditional Christmas club - all wearing Santa hats. Left about 5 with a plastic parrot Wick had robbed and a few bottles that had been glued to the bar. Managed to scam it onto the first train back to the city centre.

Waited a while for a bus before giving up and getting a taxi. Went past the Koylu and saw it was still open so got the taxi to stop. Got ripped off big time as we'd only gone a few hundred metres and got charged about a tenner. Got another turkish pizza then scammed the bus back to the hotel. Found Gabin had stolen a plastic goose from the ground floor.

Checked out on time the next morning and went for a meal at Marjans down by Südbahnhof. Had a cracking bit of steak but couldn't finish it all.

Made our way back to the airport. Knees still seriously aching from being cramped up in the hire car. Got some strange looks taking a plastic parrot through security!!

Landed on time and got the train back through London, saying farewell to Lampiert, Heldin and Fraulein Fisch on the way.

2nd half-Friday in as many weeks

Finally have a dining room table. Just lugged it halfway across Aldershot. Luckily Ben from work gave me a hand but I had to go and do 2 more trips to collect the chairs on my own.

Just had an engineer come to fix my cable as the t'interactive wasn't working and then a couple of electricians came to fix the storage heater which had given up.

Thing is they've left big muddy, oily footprints all over the carpet in the front room. The new light brown (girls would call it oatmeal probably) carpet. Yay.

I can't get the stains out. Time to get shouted at for something that isn't my fault. Yay.

Quick recap on the last week. Had Monday off. Went and finished off the majority of my Xmas shopping but struggling for ideas for a present for my Nan. Can't get her vouchers cos that's what I got her for her birthday last month. Want to get her something good as she's probably my favourite relative.

Did some studying in the afternoon. Made good progress. Not done any since though!

Little Chris was due to arrive for a meal at 7. He texted me to say he'd got the 18:!8 from Waterloo. I left the flat to meet him at the station and rang him just as it was due to arrive to tell him where to meet me. Got to the station, his train pulled in and left. No sign of Little Chris though.

Tried to ring him. No answer. Kept going to answerphone straight away. Texted him still nothing. Got pestered by a tramp every time I went on the platform. Relatively harmless bloke. Admitted he was mad and a pisshead. Kept offering me some 10% brew. Everytime I walked off he'd forget my name and ask me again.

Got the missus to ring the train people to see if any other trains left Waterloo at 18:18 in case he'd got the wrong one. There was a train to Dorking that had left then.

Eventually I gave up about 8:30 and went back to the flat. About 15 minutes later got a call from him saying he was at the station. He'd been on the wrong train and got about halfway to Portsmouth before realising. Then his mobile battery had died so had no way of letting us know as he couldn't get my number off his phone to ring us.

We had been due to go out for this meal but eventually we settled for a Chinese takeaway and watching Dog Soldiers on DVD. First time Jenny and Little Chris had seen it. Great film.

Had a couple of really busy days at work as we had to sort out an invoice for over a quarter of a million. Sounds a lot but we don't see any of the money.

Went to see Spurs on Wednesday when they blew their chances of a semi-final place. Was late as my boss made me stay late. Only missed the first 10 minutes luckily. Managed to make the last train out of Waterloo.

Missus is off home for the weekend straight from work today. Still stroppy about me not going. Dragged me out of bed this morning cos she wanted me to get dressed and carry stuff downstairs for her cos she claimed to be running late. There was only the small matter that

a) In the time it would have taken for me to get dressed and ready, she could have down the 2 trips herself.

b) My alarm then went off so I had to get ready for work myself. Any delay on my part means I miss the minibus and am late. She has a car and can make up time. And always leaves über-early anyway.

She comes back upstairs while I'm in the shower and complains that I wasn't going to say goodbye. She is officially more selfish than me for once. Bint.

Bit of peace and quiet until Monday night. Going to chill out over the weekend. Football again on Sunday. Then planning to go straight to the pub from work on Monday for food and beers with Ben and Will and maybe others.

Off to my new doctor's in a while for a checkup. Time to invent mystery aches and pains to conufse them. Can't have sickies from work until January cos I don't get any sick pay before then and can't afford to skive off.

Spurs 1 - 1 Boro (Boro win 5 - 4 on penalties aet)

Spurs inability to score a decisive second goal in the 85 minutes after their first cost them a place in the semi-finals of the Carling cup.

Anderton scored after just a minute, taking advantage of Cooper's slip to slot home. It was all Spurs for the next 15 minutes as Kanoute had 2 efforts blocked and Keane shot into the side netting.

Maccarone's volley which went well over was the only respite for Boro up until injury time when their Ricketts went around Keller but only managed to find the side netting from a good position.

Doherty replaced the injured Richards at half time. As was to be expected, Boro came out looking better second half but there were still enough chnces for Spurs to finish them off. However the balls seemed to be dropping in Boro's favour as the game went on. No more so than when they broke and Boateng put in a cross which eluded Carr and Doherty, enabling Ricketts to turn and tuck the ball away.

They almost stole it in injury time except Keller produced a superb save to tip over Ricketts' close-range header.

The first half of injury time was fairly insipid. In the second half a lot more chances came about, mainly due to tired legs. Poyet and King both missed the target, as did Ricketts and Juninho. Keller produced another excellent stop at the death, as Downing fired through a crowd of players.

The penalty shoot-out saw the first 6 efforts put away - Keane, Carr and Konchesky were the takers for Spurs. Poyet's poor effort was saved by Schwarzer and Mills scored to give Boro the advantage. Kanoute kept us in it but it still meant Mendieta could win it for Boro with their 5th effort. A great save from Keller sent it to sudden-death penalties. Taricco stepped up and sent Schwarzer the wrong way - but agonisingly it hit the post and bounced away. Queudrue didn't give Keller a chance with his spotkick and sent Boro through.

The most likely route into Europe has been blocked and our season now relies on a good run in the FA Cup starting at home to Palace and making sure we don't get involved in the relegation dog-fight.

Pleat has hinted he will be looking to make signings in January with the Brazilian wünderkid Diego hotly tipped for a big money move. Manchester United visit the Lane on Sunday and will do us no favours in our quest for Premiership points. The games against Pompey and Charlton over Christmas could be vital in keeping us up around midtable

MOTM: Anderton. Has been looking so much better since being moved back to a wide right position. Seems to have found his shooting boots over the last few weeks. Keller was also in contention for his saves but generally his distribution and anticipation was poor on the night,
