Finally finished

my Business Law textbook.

Now just got to find time to take off work for revision and sort out an appointment to sit the exam by the end of February.

Went and watched Scary Movie 3 in Basingstoke last night. Very stupid, very funny, just as you would expect. My enjoyment of the film was ruined by some fcuking little shits throwing pick'n'mix at the back of my head through most of the film.

Amazed they had enough money to afford pick'n'mix let alone throw it around.

Found this website yesterday www.chavscum.co.uk. All about the plagues of chavs, scallies, townies, neds or whatever they call them in your neck of the woods.

Basingstoke seems to be full of them. Went to KFC beforehand and the place was full of miniature versions.

Now watching Casualty from last night before whipping up a curry and watching TV for the foreseeable future.

Defoe in but no Robbo yet

Got home from work to hear the news that we'd signed Jermain Defoe in a £7m deal plus Bobby Zamora dropping back down to the Nationwide.

We'd agreed terms with the Leeds goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, but were unable to complete the deal as this would apparently have broken Premiership rules if he had stayed on loan at Elland Road until the end of the season.

Leeds tried to make it look as if he wanted to stay but Robbo's agents let the cat out of the bag with a statement. Both his agents and Spurs have implied they hope to complete the deal at the end of the season. The £2m fee would have been a great deal for a current England squad member.

Defoe is a player with plenty of Premiership experience and has scored goals at the highest level. His disciplinary record isn't the best but that may have been due to his frustration at not getting a move away from the club over the summer. He's still managed 15 goals in 22 outings.

About those car alarms

I had been threatening to place a note on the offending car which we finally located on Sunday night. It would have gone along the lines of "Sort your alarm out or I'll break your windows". I wouldn't have. Just wanted to provoke a response.

Anyway as I went out to work on Monday morning I noticed what looked like a note on the car. Didn't have time to stop and look and a different car was parked there when I got home.

Went out to Pizza Hut last night and the missus calmly slipped into the conversation that it was her who had put a note on the car. Much more politely worded. Said something like "Please could you do something about your alarm as it is keeping us all awake".

Despite the lack of threatened damage, it seems to have done the job as I have not heard the alarm since.

Normally the missus would have moaned about the alarm going off but not done anything about it. Now she has found this new managerial authoritativeness (oooh, long word!) Could be quite scary.

Booked up my first 2 foundation exams. First one is last day of February. 2nd one is last day of March. Now just got to do muchos revision.

Going shopping in about an hour to stock up on food and stuff. FA Cup replay tomorrow night. Got my ticket and hoping to get out of work at a reasonable hour to dash across London.

Spurs 3 - 4 Man City - FA Cup 4th round replay

A game that will go down in FA Cup history as Spurs contrived to throw away a 3 goal half-time lead against a City side reduced to 10 men for the entire 2nd half.

Richards replaced Doherty at the back but this only seemed to have an unsettling effect on the defence. Doherty may not be the best player but his organisational efforts have helped immensely in recent weeks whereas Richards seems too focused on his own performance.

The game started brightly as King controlled, cut inside and fired home a dipping shot. Postiga was forced off with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Poyet as there were no strikers on the bench.

Keane and Fowler had two chances each with the Irish striker's efforts being saved by debutant keeper Arason and the former Liverpool player sending both his chances wide.

Carr then played a superb through ball from his right back position. Keane ran onto it and managed to stay on his feet despite close attention from City defenders before lifting it over Arason.

City's night got worse as Anelka went off 10 minutes later before Fowler was set up by Wright-Phillips but the shot lacked power.

With 5 minutes to go before the break Barton fouled Brown and earned a caution from referee Rob Styles. Ziege struck the resulting free kick into the top corner.

The final action of the half came after the whistle. Barton voiced his disapproval of his 1st booking and promptly picked up another followed by a red.

All the half time talk was of getting tickets for the next round up at Old Trafford. City had other ideas. For the second time this season an opposition team trailing at half time in a cup game was sent out early for the second 45. And again they were quicker out of the blocks.

Just 3 minutes in Tarnat chipped a straight free kick into the box. A complete lack of marking allowed Distin to head home unmarked.

Davies almost got through 1-on-1 thanks to clever play by Keane but he was forced wide and Arason saved his shot from distance.

Ziege tried a repeat of his earlier free kick. This time Arason pushed it onto the bar. Poyet got a head to it as it fell but Arason just had enough time to grab the ball on the line. That was pretty much Ziege's last involvement as he was replaced by Jackson shortly after.

A second goal arrived for City as Bosvelt's shot sturck Gardner's leg, leaving Keller stranded. Suddenly it looked like City could do the impossible.

Poyet had 2 chances to restore a 2 goal cushion but a deflection and smart save meant it remained 3-2 until the 79th minute. Wright-Phillips received the ball, apparently in an offside position. Keller was off his line but unable to stop the City player dinking the ball over him for the equaliser.

Few chances were created in the last 10 minutes. Then in the first of 2 minutes stoppage time, Tarnat was allowed to cross and Macken headed it back across goal for the winner.

And so our interest in the cup competitions ended in an embarassing manner once again. There is plenty for the management and players to put right before Saturday's home game with Portsmouth. Unless we rectify the farcical defending witnessed last night there is little hope of gaining anything from that match. Postiga's injury will mean Defoe is sure to start but a few changes at the back would be more welcome at the moment.

With only 27 points in the league so far we still need at least 4 more wins and a couple of draws to be certain of retaining our Premiership status. The attacking potential was there for all to see last night but defensively we seem to be a shambles again.

Off to the Lane in a bit

Hoping we manage to avoid heaping further embarassment on ourselves against Pompey.

Missus has just gone off to to Brum for the weekend to see some mates from Uni so got the gaff to myself. Was going to do a fry-up but not got time before my train so will have it tomorrow instead. Will have to settle for Eat My Shorts cereal instead. Ridiculously sweet.

Made beef in black bean suace last night. Suitably impressed with myself for that.

Got an unbelievably exciting day of studying planned for tomorrow.

Just checked the train times

Bloody engineering works again.

Means instead of about 45 minutes it's going to take about 1 hour 20 minutes. Means valuable drinking time will be lost.

And the journey home will take longer. Better bloody win.

Spurs 4 - 3 Portsmouth

Another game at White Hart Lane, another seven goal thriller. Fortunately for the nerves of Spurs fans everywhere this finally swung in our favour.

Defoe was given his debut in place of the injured Postiga. Jackson started in place of Ziege and Ricketts and Doherty came back onto the bench.

Spurs took the lead three times but then each time allowed Pompey to grab an equaliser.

The first action saw Yakubu, sent back from the African Nations Cup and now refusing to return, run onto Berkovic's pass but Keller parried his shot.

The opening goal came on 12 minutes. Keane made a driving run at the heart of Pompey's defence and drew the defenders towards him. Defoe had made a good run and Keane passed to him and called for the return pass but Defoe had other ideas, firing home through De Zeeuw's legs and across Hislop into the bottom corner for a great debut goal.

Davies then had two chances to increase the lead. Firstly Brown released him at the corner of the box but his attempted curler was held by Hislop. Then Brown released him again but Hislop was out quickly to block with his legs.

Penalty claims were waved away when Curtis appeared to jump all over Brown before Quashie fired a 30 yarder wide.

Keane had a shot blocked and then Jackson picked up the ball and took it on before shooting from 25 yards but it was always rising.

Pompey's 1st equaliser came in strange circumstances. Yakubu's cross only found Spurs but his sidefooted clearance smacked onto the head of Berkovic who had continued his run and ricocheted past Keller.

Equality lasted only 2 minutes. The ball looped up en route to Keane. Everyone including his marker expected him to take a touch but Keane elected to let it bounce before swivelling a firing home a stunning goal.

Hislop saved from Dalmat to make sure Pompey only faced a 1 goal deficit at the break.

Mornar made his Pompey debut at half-time, replacing the former Spurs captain Sheringham. Berkovic tried to whip a free kick around the end of the wall but didn't get enough curl on it as Pompey started to come into the game more.

Keller had to get down well to his left to save from Yakubu and Mornar curled a shot over. Pompey's other new striker, Lomana Lua Lua, was brought on after 66 minutes.

Berkovic could have had a second after a one-two with Yakubu but his shot was too close to Keller.

Ricketts replaced the tiring Dalmat, who had been more effective than in recent games but was still unable to match his form of early January. Almost immediately Pompey got their second equaliser. Richards failed to deal with a high ball completely and allowed Lua Lua to bring it down and control it before turning and curling home from a good 20 yards.

Spurs' instant reply was a good drive from Brown being saved by Hislop before another piece of magic from Keane. Running onto a ball just inside the Pompey half, Keane sprinted into the box. He got a bit lucky as the ball bobbled between the defenders but eventually managed to dink a shot over Hislop who had gone to ground early.

Another substitute for Spurs and another goal for Pompey. Poyet replaced Defoe much to the disgust of the home fans and a minute later Carr and Richards failed to deal with Yakubu and he crossed for Mornar to mark his debut with a goal.

It seemed that we had been here before and that Spurs had thrown away another victory and 2 important Premiership points but, as on Wednesday, there was one last twist in the tale. This time a Davies corner was headed back across goal and Poyet managed to get a knee to it which was enough to get it past Hislop for a winner.

The sighs of relief were evident all round and Spurs managed to play out the last few minutes without any real scares. In fact Brown almost extended the lead but Hislop tipped away his curling shot.

A big improvement in some respects but still the defence seems to be a liability which better teams would exploit more. Fortunately our front line was too strong for Portsmouth who have failed to win away all season.

MOTM: Keane - without him we would have really struggled yesterday. Scored two and made Defoe's opener. Looking forward to seeing how Fredi will fit back in after the African Nations Cup but the future is bright on the goalscoring front.
